Rich Media Guide

From Mocean Mobile Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Rich media refers to online advertising that makes use of a range of interactive digital Media, including streaming video and audio - see examples here. The ads usually change as a users mouse passes over them.

The page describes how rich media ads can be created on the base of the Mocean Mobile platform and provides some steps to proceed.

Step #1: Select a line item within which a new rich media ad will be created.

Make sure the source of the selected line item is set to "Direct Creative"

Step #2: Under Creatives tab select Rich Media Ad type for the creative, set Creative Sub Type (None, Text or Image) and enter a Javascript code for your rich media

File:richmedia_creative.png
The sample of the code is provided below:

<iframe src="http://geo.ipromote.com/ad/?typ=1&pub=1&nid=1366&site=6885&adfmt=11&zip&ccb=1234&сlick=http%3A%2F%2Fmy_click_url.com" width="300" height="50" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

(BETA) Predefined templates
You can use predefined template by choosing one of the following rich media presets:
NOTE: If you want to change the previously selected rich media tag, the appropriate warning message appears to inform you that current rich media tag will replaced with the new one.

Step #3: You may upload a graphic banner for the rich media ad.

Use the %ASSETURL1% macro in the ad content to replace the image destination link.
(BETA) Also, you can use the %ASSETURL_<tag>% macro to replace the creative image url corresponding to the specified tag.

<a href="%ASSETURL1%"><img src="%ASSETURL1%" alt=ad/>

File:richmedia_asset.png
Below the uploaded image its size in pixels and MACRO to use are shown.
NOTE: Ad size returned on the ad request will correspond to the rich media size, NOT the uploaded image size.
NOTE: If an image exists and another is uploaded, it will replace the existing.

Step #4: Click Tracking Setup

Static Click-Through URL

Replace the click URL with %LINK% where required to track the click back to the destination URL.
Use %LINK%?redir= to prepend click-tracker to click-through URL. Note that click tracking is only available for Rich Media that includes a click-through URL or variable (%LINK%).
To obtain the list of all placeholders that can be used in rich media ad code as well as usage examples, see Mocean Mobile Macros Documentation.

In the sample code provided above, the click URL can be replaced with %ELINK% placeholder; %RANDOM% can be used for replacing the value of custom ‘ccb’ parameter with a random number.

<iframe src="http://geo.ipromote.com/ad/?typ=1&pub=1&nid=1366&site=6885&adfmt=11&zip&ccb=%RANDOM%&сlick=%ELINK%" width="300" height="50" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

During the ad processing, MACROs will be replaced with appropriate values as it is presented below:

<iframe src="http://geo.ipromote.com/ad/?typ=1&pub=1&nid=1366&site=6885&adfmt=11&zip&ccb=306749705&click=http%3A%2F%2Fads.moceanads.com%2Fredir%2F2620ee70-aba9-11e0-97e1-001ec9fd3a50%2F0%2F59007" width="300" height="50" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Dynamic Click-Through URL

Prepend %LINK%?redir= to a dynamic click URL to allow Mocean to track clicks.

In the example below, the tag is constructed to provide a dynamic click-through URL, but will permit click-tracking via prepending. You can prepend Mocean's click-tracking macro to a dynamic click-through URL using "%LINK%?redir=", a combination of the "%LINK%" macro and the "?redir=" GET parameter.

<script type="text/javascript">
var pr_pub="example";
var pr_d=new Date();pr_d=pr_d.getDay()+"|"+pr_d.getHours()+":"+pr_d.getMinutes()+"|"+-pr_d.getTimezoneOffset()/60;
var pr_postal="";
var pr_data="";
var pr_ies="";
var prinif=((window!=top)?1:0);
var pr_redir="$CTURL$";
var pr_pos="";
var prHost=(("https:"==document.location.protocol)?"https://":"http://");var pr_sec=((prHost=='https://')?'&secure=1':'');
if(pr_postal!=""){var przipmatch=/^\d{5}$/;if(przipmatch.test(pr_postal)){pr_pos+="&postal="+pr_postal;}}
if((pr_data!="")&&(pr_data.indexOf("&")<0)){pr_pos+="&data="+pr_data;}
if((pr_ies!="")&&(pr_ies.indexOf("&")<0)){pr_pos+="&ies="+pr_ies;}
var pr_s="ads.pointroll.com/PortalServe/?pid=ExampleIdNumber&pub="+pr_pub+"&time="+pr_d+"&redir="+pr_redir+pr_pos+pr_sec+"&inif="+prinif+"&r="+Math.random();
document.write("<scr"+"ipt type='text/javascript' src='"+prHost+pr_s+"'></scr"+"ipt>"); </script>

Replacing the line

var pr_redir="$CTURL$";

with

var pr_redir="%LINK%?redir=$CTURL$";

Will allow the tag to track clicks in Mocean while maintaining the ad's ability to dynamically populate the click-through URL.

NOTE: The example above is an example ONLY. Tags from different providers will use different variables for dynamic click-through URLs. It is recommended to ask your ad tag provider to indicate where the click-through URL is located in the tag.

No Click-Through URL

If a tag does not support click-tracking, ask the tag provider to modify the ad code to support click-tracking.

In the next example, the ad tag does not include any variables or URLs that would allow either a click-tracking redirect via %LINK% or a click-tracking prepend via %LINK%?redir=

<iframe src="https://cdn.adrd.co/tag/latest/frame.html#_adid=1234567890&_ct0=http%3A%2F%2Fandroid.com&_live=1" width="320" height="50"></iframe>

In this case, it is not possible to track clicks in Mocean for this tag. The tag provider will need to modify the tag to expose the ad's click-through URL.

Step #5: For the rich media ad that is built as custom size, specify its width and height in pixels to ensure the ad will be running in the appropriate ad spots set up by publishers. For example, a custom rich media ad is 500x500 and you want to ensure it will run in the appropriate ad spot set up by the publisher. These width and height fields allow you to specify the actual size of the rich media.

NOTE: Both width and height should be specified, or left empty. One of the dimensions set is not allowed.

Step #6: Add one or more Tracking Pixel URLs, which would be used for that specific creative exclusively.

Step #7: When using Evidon technology in conjunction with Rich Media ads, add your unique Evidon script to the creative below the main code. Example:

<!-- Rich Media Creative -->
<p>test - device width and height macro</p>
<a href=%LINK%><img src="http://mad.vstd.de/as/evidon/300x75_naturally.png"></a>
<!-- End of Rich Media Creative -->

<!-- Evidon javascript tag -->
<script>var d=document;var bap_rnd=%RANDOM%;var _bao={coid:242,nid:17492,ad_w:%DEVICEWIDTH%,ad_h:%DEVICEHEIGHT%,uqid:bap_rnd,ecaid:'',link:'http://adchoicessit.vfnet.de/',position:'',icon_display:''};d.write('<img style="margin:0;padding:0;" border="0" width="0" height="0" src="#" id="bap-pixel-'+bap_rnd+'"/>');(function(){if(d.getElementById('ba.js'))return;d.write('<sc'+'ript id="ba.js" type="text/javascript" src="http://c.betrad.com/mobile-64.js"></scr'+'ipt>');})();</script><script>d.write('<sc'+'ript>try{BAP.start(_bao);}catch(e){}</sc'+'ript>');</script>
<!-- End of Evidon javascript tag -->

Step #8: Make other creative settings and save it. Then customize other line items settings and launch the line item.

NOTE: %LINK% MACROS will not work and your Rich Media will not be shown if no landing page URL is provided when creating a rich media ad!
